Keech Hospice Care
During May 2018 we visited, a hospice in Bedfordshire which cares for children in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes during palliative care at the hospice, in hospital or at home.
During the Financial Year 2016/2017, Keech helped 317 children across these 3 areas. 13 of these children were from St Albans, where our Foundation is based.
We donated £2000 for music therapy and we met Nathan their Music Therapist and we saw the wonderful provision that Keech offers.
Music therapy is on a one to one basis, during a few sessions and work towards the following outcomes:
Increased self esteem and confidence – the music offers a medium of expression of thoughts and feelings
Reduced sense of isolation – sessions are child centred so the child has full ownership of the time and space
Improved communication – the area of biggest improvement; verbal and non-verbal children are empowered to ‘voice’ their fears and concerns
